The revitalization and maintenance of all Ontario First Nations’ languages are vital. Language is a unique symbol of culture and identity. Native languages connect people to their respective pasts while grounding their social, emotional and spiritual strength.
The language selection for the calendar was based on both research and submissions from our committee members.
The languages used are Tyendinaga Mohawk, Nishinaabemowin, Cree (N dialect), and the language of the Anishinaabe of Lake of the Woods – Ojibways.
The committee would like to thank and give credit to our valuable language resource volunteers. Angela Brown provided the translation for Tyendinaga Mohawk and Ronald M. Kelly provided the translation for the language of the Anishinaabe of Lake of the Woods – Ojibways.
