MARKSTAY-WARREN PUBLIC LIBRARIES
POLICY REGARDING MINORS
APPROVED BY MARKSTAY-WARREN PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD JUNE 11, 2007
The Markstay-Warren Public Library Board members, in order to assist library personnel to complete their duties, provide an atmosphere conducive to study and the appropriate use of the library’s services and facilities, and provide for safety, comfort and welfare for patrons of all ages has adopted the following policy:
- The Library is not responsible for the care of unattended minors (children under the age of 12 years).
- Children under the age of 8 (eight) may not be left unattended in the Library.
Care providers must supervise and provide guidance and control for their charges at all times.
Attendance at library programs, browsing for recreational reading, after school use of the library for homework and computer access is encouraged and considered appropriate. Librarians will provide minimal supervision and assistance to caregivers and their children under the age of 8 as well as to children over the age of 12 years.
In addition, the Library will not be responsible for a minor’s selection of movies and will not give out movies over the PG rating to a minor alone. The Library believes it is the right and responsibility of a parent or guardian to determine what is appropriate material in order to meet personal family standards and guidelines. Therefore parents are encouraged to accompany their children and to select material with their children.
Please note that students of Markstay Public School are not permitted to take movies out during school hours.
