The first mention of a library in the Town of Kearney was in the library minutes which said, "A Public Meeting for the re-organization of the library was held October 9, 1925", this seems to suggest that there may have been a library before this date, but there is no proof.
In the Early 1940's the former Ryan's Hall was purchased for a community centre by a town committee, and an extension was added on for the town office and library.
The library moved to it's present location in 1984-85 when the town purchased the former public school to house the town office and library.
