CAPThe Community Access Program (CAP) is a federal government initiative administered by Industry Canada. It provides support for public computer access to the Information Highway via the Internet at the local community level. The overall objective is to provide all Canadians with affordable, convenient access to the global knowledge-based economy and the opportunity to use its technologies. In collaboration with provincial, territorial and municipal governments, the private sector and not-for-profit organizations, CAP will help establish up to 10 000 public Internet access sites in rural, remote and urban communities across Canada by March 31, 2001. Also helping to guide the program are Industry Canada's regional CAP representatives, CAP's Provincial/Territorial Review Committees, Special Provincial Agencies and the CAP National Advisory Committee. CAP OBJECTIVES:
Originally, CAP was brought to the area by forming a partnership with Ferris Glen Public School (Barlow Patten/Scott Dunn), the Bonfield Public Library (Greg Boxwell/Marilyn Stewart) and the East Ferris Public Library (Claudette Quinn) and naming it the Ferris Glen CAP.
